There are various etiologies for the development of
postoperative fever:
1-
Pneumonia
2-
Lung collapse!
3-
Wound infection
4-
Transfusions
5-
I.V. lines, Indwelling
catheters and UTIs
6-
Deep venous thrombosis
7-
DRUGS:
a-
Penicillin
b-
Macrolide
c-
Isoniazid
d-
Aspirin
e-
Captopril
f-
Allopurinol
How to connect these drugs together?
, I wouldn’t lie I can’t understand their pathogenesis and it would be really
great if anyone could add why these drugs maybe associated with a postoperative
fever, In particular I’m interested how in the world ASPIRIN could be
involved in that ?!! : )) maybe I say maybe , Allergic interstitial nephritis ?
Note that, you should know this:
Acute onset of fever which starts within 24 hours
postoperatively, consider wound infections, (streptococcal – clostridial – not
sure about pseudomonas- but I guess amoxicillin would be enough,
Also consider blood transfusion as an etiology,
Postoperative fever which starts within 3 days
postoperatively, Pneumonia is the first thing to consider,
A question I got it wrong because of an information I didn’t
know, Incentive spirometry not antibiotics is a better way for prophylaxis
against postoperative pneumonia, how? simple concept it increases air flow and
clearance of secretions,
